Matt Hamilton is the owner and founder of Outdoor, Inc., a landscape and grading company that offers comprehensive services from breaking the ground to final landscaping. Outdoor, Inc. recently merged with Branch Excavation to bring more expertise onto the team. Urban Tree, an affiliate of Outdoor, Inc. specializes in tree removal and tree preservation.
 Tell us about your business.
Matt: We are one point of contact for outdoor needs for commercial grounds. We handle it all – excavating, design services, landscaping implementation, and ongoing maintenance. We’ve been in business since 2003 and have 65 employees in Chattanooga.
How did you get into construction?
Matt: My dad was a GC so I was always on construction sites. I didn’t like carpentry, but I liked equipment. I went to church with a guy who did landscaping and did that for 8 years, and knew that I wanted to be an earthwork contractor. I saw the opportunity to be a partner as one point contact on projects, from breaking the ground at the beginning to sealing it up at the end of a project.
Why did you join AGC?
Matt: Networking and business development is important as we grow, and AGC will help us build trust and relationships with contractors. We are always looking for solutions to provide better training for our guys. We want to train leaders and give our guys really good career paths. I believe in investing in our employees to make them know that they are in a respected position.
