Students completing this 4-month program will receive the Tennessee Residential General Contractors License and up to $10,400 in licensing bonding assistance.

    WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

    Participants learn directly from construction business owners, financial professionals, attorneys, safety experts, and industry instructors who understand what it takes to build and grow a successful construction company. 

    The program is hosted by the Associated General Contractors of East Tennessee, a community of 240 construction companies.  Students will learn from their executives their best practices for successful businesses.

    Who is eligible?
    If you’ve worked in construction, and preferably own your own business, have a desire to obtain your residential general contractors license, and live in a qualifying zip code: 37404, 37406, 37407, or 37410

    Do I need construction experience?
    Yes, you need to have experience in construction to participate in the program. 

    Do I need to already own a business?
    No, but it is preferred, and you do have to have a desire to own a company.

    How much does it cost to participate in the program?
    There is no cost to participate in the program.  This is a competitive program so not every applicant may be accepted.

    How long is the program?
    The program starts on September 3 and runs through December 8 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 – 7:30 pm.

    Do I have to attend all of the classes?
    To graduate, receive a contractor’s license, and bonding assistance, students must attend the classes.  Students are expected to notify staff of unavoidable absences.  Excessive absenteeism will result in be removed from the course.

    What happens after I finish?
    Graduates will receive their Tennessee Residential Contractor’s License and an opportunity for up to $10,400 towards the licensing bond.

    BONDING ASSISTANCE

    Participants may qualify for financial assistance of up to $10,400 toward the contractor bond required for Tennessee residential licensing.

    Financial assistance is based on individual need and eligibility. Funding awards vary based on individual circumstances and eligibility. Participants may receive less than the maximum amount, and funding is not guaranteed.
